U.S. Army Soldier from Powidz Awarded EMEA 2024 Volunteer of Quarter II

USO Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) is excited to announce the 2024 EMEA Volunteer of Quarter II, Kenney Doherty from USO Powidz.

As a U.S. Army soldier, Kenney volunteered with USO Powidz after work during his free time. When volunteering in the center, Kenney consistently exhibited every single one of the USO core values - Do the Right Thing, Respect, Accountability, Gratitude, Mission First, Innovation, Collaboration and Excellence. This led him to earning the title of lead volunteer very early on in his journey. Kenney volunteered a total of 320 hours with the USO.

USO volunteers strengthen the well-being of the people serving in America’s military by welcoming service members and their families to our USO locations, providing hospitality, and assisting with delivering our unique programs and activities in USO locations across the globe. | Photo credit USO Photo

While leading volunteer shifts, he was known to mentor his peers through work and life matters. Even though he was a Sergeant, he never brought his rank to the USO with him and treated everyone with respect. He helped execute many fun and exciting USO events and maintained cleanliness standards in the center with excellence.

Kenney was also an integral piece to building the USO Powidz Gaming program. Through collaboration and innovation, he brought together diverse groups and helped host various gaming events. He dedicated his time to at least one event a week for six months and became the primary leader for Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.

It was a positive and friendly environment to spend time with an overall amazing group of people.

USO Powidz also benefitted from Kenney’s technical knowledge, as he helped with the installation of new surge protectors and rewiring. This required a solid understanding of the building’s electrical layout and the ability to accurately plan and execute the rewiring. Despite these challenges, he successfully completed the task, ensuring a safe and reliable electrical setup.

Kenney has also helped staff with completely reorganizing their volunteer desk, gaming equipment station and the gaming room. He helped train at least thirty new volunteers and helped to bring on new lead volunteers.
